Sensory Integration Dysfunction

Sensory Integration Dysfunction also known as Sensory Processing Disorder is when information is sensed normally but processed abnormally. People with this type of disorder have problems with their five sense. It is known as a neurological disorder that can be related to other neurological conditions, including ASDs. I have known people discuss the fact their child has SID with autism. That can be true, but it does not have to be.

It is not curable , but treatable with therapy. During a therapy session, an Occupational Therapist works on stimulating and challenging a child's senses. According to information I have found, this should be in a room set up to do those things for your senses. This can coexist with speech delays, aggression and emotional issues.
